answers to this week's five on friday
Narrated Jabir radhiallahu `anhu: I heard the Prophet saying, "The Throne (of Allah) shook at the death of Sa`d bin Muadh." Through another group of narrators, Jabir added, "I heard the Prophet: saying, 'The Throne of the Beneficent shook because of the death of Sa`d bin Mu`adh.'" [Bukhari] He had been injured in the Battle of the Confederates and had invoked Allah asking that he be kept alive till he had his full revenge on the treacherous Banu Quraiza. The Jews of Banu Quraiza later surrendered and they agreed to have Sa`d bin Mu`adh give a verdict upon them. He decided that all the able-bodied male persons belonging to the tribe should be killed, women and children taken prisoners and their wealth divided among the Muslim fighters. He died shortly thereafter. When his bier was carried, At-Tirmidhi said: The hypocrites alleged it was too light. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam retorted: "The angels are carrying him."
2. The Prophet sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam had mentioned 4 companions from whom the others should learn the recitation of the Qur`an. Who were they? Narrated Masruq radhiallahu `anhu: `Abdullah bin Mas`ud was mentioned before Abdullah bin `Amr who said, "That is a man I still love, as I heard the Prophet saying 'Learn the recitation of Qur`an from four: from `Abdullah bin Mas`ud - he started with him - Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifa, Mu'adh bin Jabal and Ubai bin Ka'b." [Bukhari]
3. They were the first to be sent to Madeenah before the others made hijrah to teach the Qur`an to the people. Who were these two companions? Narrated Al-Bara bin Azib radhiallahu `anhu: The first people who came to us (in Medina)
were Mus'ab bin 'Umayr and (`Abdullah) ibn Um Maktum who were
teaching Qur'an to the people. Then there came Bilal. Sa`d and `Ammar bin
Yasir. After that `Umar bin Al-Khattab came along with twenty other
companions of the Prophet. Later on the Prophet himself (to Medina) and I
had never seen the people of Medina so joyful as they were on the arrival of
Allah's Apostle, for even the slave girls were saying, "Allah's Apostle has
arrived!" And before his arrival I had read the Sura starting with:--
"Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High" (87.1) together with other
Suras of Al-Mufassal.
Narrated Asma' bint Abu Bakr radhiallahu `anha: I conceived `Abdullah bin Az-Zubair at Mecca and went out (of Mecca) while I was about to give birth. I came to Medina and encamped at Quba', and gave birth at Quba'. Then I brought the child to Allah's Apostle and placed it (on his lap). He asked for a date, chewed it, and put his saliva in the mouth of the child. So the first thing to enter its stomach was the saliva of Allah's Apostle. Then he did its Tahnik with a date, and invoked Allah to bless him. It was the first child born in the Islamic era, therefore they (Muslims) were very happy with its birth, for it had been said to them that the Jews had bewitched them, and so they would not produce any offspring. [Bukhari]
5. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam said that this companion had a most beautiful voice, like that of the Prophet Dawood `alayhis salaam. Name this companion. Al-Bukhaari narrated from Burayd ibn ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Abi Burdah from his grandfather from Abu Moosa radhiallahu `anhu that the Prophet sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam said: “O Abu Moosa (al-Ash`ari), you have been given one of the mizmaar of the family of Dawood.” [Ibn Hajar said: “What is meant by mizmaar is a beautiful voice. The original meaning is a musical instrument and the word is applied to the voice because it resembles it."]
