THIS WEEK'S ANSWERS

.: THE prophets & messengers `alayhimus salaam :.

1. It is said every baby is touched by Shaytan at the time of its birth. This Prophet and his mother was protected from this. Name him.

He was `Isa `alayhis salaam.

Imam Ahmad narrated from Abu Hurayrah radhiallahu `anhu saying that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam said, "No baby is born but it is touched by Shaytan at the time of its birth, and it comes out screaming, except Maryam and her son `Isa."

2. It is said that the Prophet `Isa `alayhis salaam met this Prophet and asked him to seek forgiveness for him [`Isa] as he was the better one, for Allah had sent His Peace upon this Prophet. Who was he?

He was Yahya bin Zakariyya `alayhis salaam.

Allah says in the Qur`an [translation]: "'O Yahya! Take hold of the Book with firmness.' And We granted him wisdom while he was yet a child. And tenderness from Us and purity. And he was pious. And kind to his parents, and he was never insolent, disobedient. So peace upon him the day he was born, and on the day he dies and the day he shall be raised to life." [Surah Maryam 19: 12-15]

Qatadah narrated from Hasan saying: Yahya and `Isa met so `Isa said to him, "Seek forgiveness for me from Allah because you are better than me." Yahya replied to him saying, "You seek forgiveness for me fro Allah, because you are better than me." So `Isa replied, "You are better than me, because I called peace on myself, but in your case, Allah sent His peace upon you."

3. This Prophet was in battle and during the `Asr prayer, asked that the sun be held back from setting so that his army could conquer the city of Jericho. Who was he?

He was Yushaa bin Noon `alayhis salaam.

Imam Ahmad recorded from Abu Hurayrah radhiallahu `anhu who said that the Prophet sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam said, "The sun has never been held back from setting except for Yushaa..." At the time, the sun was about to set and Saturday, then a holy day for them, was about to enter upon them. Hence Yushaa bin Noon asked Allah to hold the sun back till they had conquered the city.

4. This Prophet hit the angel of death who had come to take his life. Who was he?

He was Musa bin `Imran `alayhis salaam.

It is narrated from Abu Hurairah radhiallahu `anhu that the Prophet sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam said, "The angel of death was sent to Musa `alayhis salaam. When he came back to him, Musa beat him and pushed him away. The angel went back to hi Lord and complained, 'You have sent me to a slave who does not want to die.' Allah said, 'Go back to him and tell him to put his hand on the back of an ox and whatever his hand may come to cover the hair of that ox, he will be granted a year for every hair.' Musa said, 'O my Lord! Then what will happen?' He replied, 'Death.' Musa said, 'Then why not now?' [al-Bukhari]

5. The Prophet Adam `alayhis salaam gave this Prophet 40 years of his life. Name this Prophet.

He was Dawud `alayhis salaam.

Abu Hurairah radhiallahu `anhu has narrated that the Prophet sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam said, "When Allah created Adam, He stroked with His Hand over his back. So all the souls which were due to be born in his progeny until the Day of Judgement came out of his back. In front of the eyes of every human being He made a shining light and put them before Adam. Adam said, 'O Lord! Who are they?' He replied, 'They are your progeny.' He saw a man among them whose shining light attracted him. Adam asked, 'O Lord! Who is this?' Allah answered him, 'He is a man who will come in the last of your progeny and who will be called Dawud.' He asked Him, 'O Lrd! How much have You granted him of his age?' Allah said, 'Sixty years.' Adam asked Allah, 'O Lord! Grant him from my age forty years more.'" [Ad-Darimi]
